32-bit and 64-bit Versions of Excel

GeneHunter add-in release 4.0 for Microsoft Excel can work with both 32- and 64-bit versions of Excel. At the time of this writing, the latest version is Excel 2013 (mainly available as part of Office 365).  A 32-bit Excel can operate on either 32- or 64-bit version of Windows. A 64-bit Excel can only operate on a 64-bit Windows.

In Excel 2003 and Excel 2007, the GeneHunter Add-in may be run only as a 32-bit application. In Excel 2010 and 2013, GeneHunter may be run as either a 32-bit or 64-bit application.

Files

GeneHunter add-in consists of two files: genehunt.xla and a supporting library file (the GeneHunter DLL file). Genehunt.xla file is universal for both 32- and 64-bit versions of Excel. However, the required GeneHunter DLL file is individual per Excel bitness.

The GeneHunter setup program does not query the bitness of installed Excel during GeneHunter installation. Therefore, it installs both 32- and 64-bit GeneHunter DLLs regardless of Excel and Windows bitness.

When running on a 32-bit Excel, the GeneHunter add-in uses the geneh32.DLL library file which is installed in the \Windows\Systems32 folder (on a 32-bit Windows) or \Windows\SysWOW64 (on a 64-bit Windows).

When running on a 64-bit Excel, the GeneHunter add-in uses the geneh64.DLL library file which is installed in the \Windows folder.

The following table details GeneHunter add-in file names and location of the DLL file.
