Return to chapter overview

An alphabet is the set of all values that may be taken on by a gene.  The alphabet for a gene in a continuous chromosome is comprised of the values 0 and 1.  For enumerated chromosomes, the alphabet is determined strictly by the program formulation.  In some cases, the alphabet can cover the entire set of 16-bit integer numbers.  In the Excel interface, you specify the values by placing the initial values in the adjustable cells.
