crossover rate

Return to chapter overview

The crossover rate is the probability that crossover will occur; it can have any value from the range from 0 to 1, though the most common values are in the range 0.8-1.0.  Traditionally, the crossover rate is formulated as the crossover probability per chromosome.  The number of individuals undergoing the crossover operator increases as the population size and the number of chromosomes per individual increases.
